Some nice, blasting hardcore from Washington state. Hardcore in the early 1980's sense, that is; not some crap like Atreyu or Hatebreed. Sex Vid are so hardcore, in fact, that they don't even have a MySpace page. This track is from their ripping debut 7" EP. They've since released three more 7" EPs, a 12" EP and a coupla live tapes. It's all pretty much essential, imo. Except the live tape I missed out on. Since I don't have a copy, I'll have to assume it's awful, so I won't feel sorry for myself. Speaking of Hatebreed, here's a little gem from an interview with their guitarist Frank Novinec: Blasting-Zone.com: At this point, where do you feel HATEBREED stands within the hierarchy of the hardcore genre? Do you feel the band should be considered the reining godfathers of the style? Frank: "I wouldn't say that. I wouldn't go so far as to say godfathers. I think that title should be reserved for the CRO-MAGS, AGNOSTIC FRONT and SICK OF IT ALL. Among the reader responses:Hatebread: Godfathers of Hardcore? Gimme a fucking break! Cro-Mags, Agnostic Front and Sick of It All as godfathers of hardcore? Gimme another fucking break! What about Bad Brains, Black Flag, The Teen Idles, Poison Idea, Minor Threat, The Fix, Germs, Necros, D.O.A., Circle Jerks, Hüsker Dü, Bad Religion, RF7, Government Issue, Die Kreuzen, etc., etc., etc. All of them, and *hundreds* more, pre-date the above NYC HC crap. The rise of lunkheaded, jock mentality NYC HC was the DEATH of (good) hardcore, not the goddamn BIRTH!
