(Aisle 2 Records, 2000)

There used to be a small CD store named musiCDrome near my old office that I hit on my lunch break on a regular basis. They had a dollar bin that afforded me many prizes over the few years they were around, and I missed them when they moved to a new location many, many miles away.

One of my favorite dollar bin finds at musiCDrome was the eponymous, and only, album by Congratulations on Your Decision to Become a Pilot. As soon as I saw the ridiculously long band name and super-stark cover art, I knew I had to at least give it a try. Luckily, they had a couple of CD players, so one could sample potential purchases before making a decision. I listened to a few seconds of the opening track and walked out with it moments later, $1.06 gone from my wallet.

Sadly, they split sometime after this album was released, but not before contributing the otherwise-unavailable track Tied Up Overhead to the Doubleplusgood Records Pop for Charity: Sound Progression compilation CD.

Yeah, this isn't that bad. That Jackyl track is crap, though.

:-D

I've endured much scorn over my love of Jackyl over the past two decades.

I remember their video with the chainsaw in it (forget the name of the song); at the time it was kinda cool, because everything had really fallen down a hole as far as total generic hair metal goes, and so the Jackyl video was somewhat different at least.

But now I listen to it and I'm like, uh, this isn't that good...

That was probably "The Lumberjack," though the chainsaw has been used in a few other songs, too. I've been told before that my taste is completely random and unpredictable, so to each his own. :)

Random and unpredictable is good, keeps people confused.

interesting, it sorta gets going into a groove and then takes an extreme turn, and goes a bit odd, then gets better again. i do like the heavy bit towards teh end of the song. the whole out of tune-ness of it really appeals to me.

I've got a copy of the "Tied Up Overhead" and another unreleased song on an old promo cassette tape called "Hookey" both from Congratulations On Your Decision To Become A Pilot. Good stuff, I can share, maybe?
